Conundrum about finishing wood floors?

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not to bother refinishing the wood floors in our 3 small bedrooms. Right now you can hardly tell what condition they're in because of the area rugs we have. If we got them finished, we'd just be putting the rugs back down so it seems pointless to me. However it may be easier to do it now rather than in 5 years when we have kids in the house. We also want the carpet in our LR pulled up to have the floors underneath finished but not right now- should we wait and do all the floors at once? Is there any point in doing the bedrooms if they'll be covered with area rugs? They're not in horrible shape, only one room has stains that need to be sanded.
