I met a guy online and he wants to meet up. What should I do?

I met him through facebook because we are going to the same college. We talked a little back and forth, nothing serious. Then he asked if I wanted to meet him. I was curious about seeing this guy so I agreed and we have set a date up. I know, I know. Those stories you unfortunately hear all the time about innocent young women talking to guys online then come to find out, they're not who they said they were. And that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. A close friend suggested making it a group thing just to be safe, but my friends tell me this is a bad idea and they're not comfortable with it at all. So should I cancel the date and avoid this guy on campus or should I bring my friends and risk the fact that this could be a guy trying to take advantage of me?
