Tattoos? Is it true u arent meant to have one before going on hol?

Getting a tattoo done soon and going on hol in august and heard there should be 6 months between having one and being exposed to sun due to cancer risk or is that rubbish? I thought to myself cant be cos people in hot countries get tattoos as well
