Why exactly in Arabic is the Great Sphinx of Giza called Abu Al Hol "Father of terror/ terrifying one"?

Is there a specific myth or reason as to why the Great Sphinx of Giza is called "the father of terror/the terrifying one"(I've seen it translated both ways). Just curious. thanks for the answers.
